Safe is an app I totally invented dedicated designed to provide support and support for victims of violence. The platform offers access to a helpline numbers and allows you to communicate with social workers via chat functionality. Additionally, it provides informative articles on relevant laws for clarify the rights of victims. Volunteer attorneys are available to respond any legal questions users might have. In addition, Safe makes it easier donations to support victims through designated donation centers.
The problem: The problem was user security when visiting the app.
The goal: The aim was to focus on security and urgent aid.
By conducting research with users of my mobile application intended to help victims of violence, I embarked on a multidimensional approach to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the needs and preferences of our target users. First, we formulated some hypotheses about the main concerns and challenges facing victims, such as the importance of discreet communication, accessibility to resources and the need for a user-friendly interface. To validate these hypotheses, I conducted surveys with a diverse group of potential users. Throughout the research process, we discovered nuances in the experiences and preferences of our target audience that exceeded my initial assumptions. For example, the importance of anonymity in communication emerged as a crucial aspect, as did the need for localized communication. This user feedback encouraged me to change my priorities, favor a more inclusive and efficient mobile application.
Problem statement
Fiona is a Housewife who needs help to leave their violent environment because of the danger that constantly hovers around them.
User Journey Map
This revealed to us how important discretion is and that it would be useful to have an app compatible with it.
Paper wireframe
The wireframe showed the best elements.
Low-fidelity prototype
Usability study
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Refining the design
Mockups
Early designs did not allow access to the immediate page change button on all pages, the menu did not allow the button to be included like on other pages.
After the usability study, I modified this.
Mockups
The second usability study found that a chat system with document, photo or location sharing was useful.
Accessibilty considerations
Going forward
Impact
The Safe application was created for victims of violence or witnesses of violence. Its aim is to provide assistance to each person and to be provided with maximum accessibility. Access for all is an essential aspect of design.
What I learned
When designing the app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are just the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app design.
